The Power of Small Habits: How Tiny Changes Lead to Big Growth

Sometimes we think we need to make massive changes to see growth in our lives, but God often works in the little things. After all, Jesus Himself said in Matthew 17:20, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move." If a mustard seed can move mountains, then surely starting your day with five minutes of prayer instead of doom-scrolling Instagram can spark some holy momentum. Don’t despise the small beginnings—God’s big blessings love to sneak in through tiny doors.
Think about it: Noah didn’t build the ark overnight. He didn’t slap it together with some holy duct tape and hope for the best. He built it one plank at a time, likely with neighbors rolling their eyes at him. That’s a reminder for us all—when you decide to read a single verse a day or drink water instead of your fifth cup of coffee, it might feel insignificant. But those small actions stack up faster than you think. One day, you're just a person taking tiny steps, and the next, you’re sailing on your own spiritual ark while the doubters are stuck in the rain!
Of course, making small changes requires some humor and grace for yourself. You might think you’re going to wake up at 5 a.m. for prayer and accidentally hit snooze until 7—but guess what? God’s still proud of you. Proverbs 24:16 says, "For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again." Whether you’re rising to try a new habit or just rising to hit the coffee pot, every small step counts. So keep at it—your mustard-seed moments today might just sprout into full-blown forests tomorrow. Be encouraged! My Gratitude Journal: Snow, Pat: Amazon.com: Books
